Block of the Month Pages Published

I have just updated the details on all Carolyn's Blocks of the Month and given each its own page on the side bar to the right of the Blog space.

Hopefully this will make the information clearer and I can better display photos. I am keen to keep the pages updated with student's photos too.

Above is just such an example. Jean started the Aunt Green Coverlet at Quiltworks in January and sent this shot of her lovely take on the quilt. It looks fresh enough to eat!

Clever Patchworkers

Just for inspiration, here are some of the results of some of our clever students and customers.

Valerie finally completed her 10,434 half inch hexagon quilt. What can I say?!

Lynne showed us a lovely take on Carolyn's Wilfred and Cloves Design. The reds look fantastic.

 

And last but not least, this is Neeska's Farmer's Wife Quilt in the making. Believe it or not - this is Neeska's first quilt!

Hope this is enough inspiration for one blog!

New Class List

Ok, so it looks like I have been very slack on the blog front but it has actually taken me a whole week to get the Class List Page at the right up to date. This has not been helped by having recently changed to a Mac from a PC.

Despite the frustrations I have been excited to pick up some new skills. Click on the links for Farmer's Wife, or the Charm Square Saturday class to see my photo collages.

Choosing Border and Sashing Fabric

This isn't one of Carolyn's design's but when Diane brought her quilt in to choose border and sashing fabrics it was a great way to demonstrate just how useful the digital camera can be to help make fabric choices.

Here are some of the potential choices.

Tough decision but doesn't each fabric have a different effect on the look of the quilt?

The digital camera is a great way to get a bird's eye view too.

Farmer's Wife Progress

Some of our Farmer's Wife student's have been in and we have grabbed some pictures for show-and-tell.

Still talking Quiltworks!

Shelly's lovely over-night bag (pictured here) was another project started at Quiltworks in January.

 

 

 

 

The sewing machines came out and another sound was added to the hum of voices.

Quiltworks Update

Apologies for the long wait for blogs – I have been moving house and it hasn't been pretty!

But now to catch up on news here at Carolyn's, as we start 2012 with a bang.

A big thank you to all the lovely ladies who joined us for Quiltworks in January, it was a wonderful time, made all the more so by great company. Unfortunately we didn't get photos of all classes but I will share those we did snap.

The Aunt Green's coverlet girls began the painstaking task of sewing all those leaves!

On the left is Carolyn's new re-creation of the centre panel from which the full coverlet will extend.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ann-Marie chose to use the loveliest pale toile for the background of her centre panel. Something she was saving for a special quilt and a perfect choice.

Diedre (below top) made a great start, but the teacher's pet was definitely Janet (below bottom)!

Jokes aside, with handwork it is often slow to show results – it is not a speedy process so it is important to realize that much learning of technique was taking place as well, and that part of the joy of handwork is to actually slow down a little!

Both Merryn and Loretta chose different colourways and I do hope we get to see the final results.

It may look chaotic but where there is mess there is creativity!

There is only one photo from the 19th Century Folk Art Quilt class but Deb's block is a beauty! She is already waiting eagerly for the next instalment of this BOM. Carolyn might have her work cut out keeping up I think.

Shelley's Travel Bag

So excited to finally reveal Shelley's travel bag in all its glory. And what a treat it is!

I am very envious of the lucky girls doing this class next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Quilt Retreat - there's some spaces if anyone is still interested.

Love it!
